In an HP Storage Works EVA Best Practices document published in February 2010, we were advised not to use the HP MPIO DSM with Cluster Shared Volumes, but as an alternative to use Microsoft Native MPIO only. This was unfortunate because the HP MPIO Full Featured DSM allows for better visibility and control of the [...]

Microsoft changes Hyper-V R2 cluster limits
Until now Microsoft supported Hyper-V R2 clusters with a maximum of 64 VM’s per cluster node or 960 VM’s per 16 node cluster (taking into account a cluster reserve of 1).
With the upcoming SP1, these limits have now been increased to 1000 VM’s per cluster with any number of nodes, but with no more than [...]
Hyper-V R2 and Clustering Videos Technet 2010 North America
Last week a number of great presentations were given at TechEd 2010 North America in New Orleans .
Here is a selection of sessions on Hyper-V R2 and Clustering that I consider to be my field. Some of them are presented by my Cluster MVP Lead Symon Perriman.
Disaster Recovery by Stretching Hyper-V Clusters Across Sites: [...]

Hotfix for Windows Server 2008 R2 Print Cluster (KB 976571)
Please note Microsoft has published an important hotfix for Windows Server 2008 R2 print clusters. A detailed blog written by Symon Perriman can be found at: http://blogs.msdn.com/clustering/archive/2010/01/22/9951795.aspx

Restoring printers using Print Back-up Restore Migrate Utility (PrintBRM.exe)
A Hyper-V update rollup package is available for Windows Server 2008 R2
Several issues around VSS based protection & recovery are being addressed with this Hyper-V update rollup package. The package can be downloaded from: http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=975354&kbln=en-us
The last three issues might sound familiar if you already perform host level protection of virtual machines on Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) with Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager [...]
How to Protect your MS Virtualized Environment with DPM2010 (Part 3)
Next in this series is a TechEd Europe 2009 presentation by Asim Mitra, a senior program manager from Microsoft, on data protection and recovery of Hyper-V and Hyper-V R2 workloads with Data Protection Manager 2010.
DPM2010 beta has been publicly available for a few weeks. In my own lab DPM2010 is spinning happily, protecting a Hyper-V [...]
Best Practices to Implement Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V R2 on HP ProLiant Servers (Part 2)
On the first day of TechEd Europe 2009, Doug Dewerd presented a session on best practices to implement Windows Server 2008 R2 on HP ProLiant Servers. This is in fact the combination of hardware and software I have preferred ever since Windows and ProLiant were joined, exactly 20 years ago last week. The ProLiant server [...]
How large is your Cluster Shared Volume?
In his blog Chris Adams, a Senior Lead Program Manager in the Microsoft Server Division, wrote about setting up a new Hyper-V R2 clusters and migrating non high available VM’s to the cluster and FC SAN based storage.
Chris has defined fairly large Cluster Shared Volumes. Until now I have advised to limit the number of [...]
First cluster migration experience to Hyper-V R2 cluster
[recovered from Google cache without pictures]
Our research HP c3000 Blade Enclosure at Nobel, sometimes referred to as Shorty, has been running several builds of Hyper-V clusters. Last summer we started with installing our first Hyper-V (now referred to as R1) cluster which went RTM at the end of June 2008.
Just after TechEd 2008 in November [...]
